New Explorer Program Allows Anyone to Buy Google Glass Next Week

Those with a little extra cash can buy Google Glass starting Tuesday, April 15. That's right. A new Explorer program is coming and it will allow anyone with $1,500 to spend to get a pair. But you'll have to pick up the Glass from one of Google's offices in New York or Los Angeles. It's worth noting that those who want to purchase Google Glass will still have to pay the full cost of the Explorer Edition - $1,500 plus tax.

But the good news is that it won't be a long wait. Those on the waitlist will be able to sign up when spots open up. If you're interested, you can head to the Glass Explorer website to declare your interest and post a 50-word application on social media. Those who submit a video of 15 seconds, a picture of themselves, or a 50-word description of a friend's experience with Glass will also be invited to the program.

To qualify for the Explorer program, applicants must be at least 18 years old and live in the United States. They will be emailed an invitation to the program and they will have 14 days to invite three friends to join the Explorer Program. This will help Google learn more about how to improve the Glass experience. The program will also give Explorers the chance to write code for the Glass using the Mirror API. Those who participate in the program will be able to choose their favorite shades.

While it's unclear how many units are going to be given away through the Explorer waitlist, it seems that they're not as large as those that are sold in the market. That means that it's likely that the Explorer program will be limited to a small number of people, rather than a huge number like the one that was offered in early December.

Those who are interested in the Glass Explorer program can now join by clicking the link below. If you are selected, you'll be asked to submit an email address and US shipping address. In return, you'll be emailed details on the Glass Explorer program in November. The program will then include a mono earbud, the original shades from the first Glass kits, and a pair of prescription-compatible frames.

As a Glass Explorer, you'll be able to check your email without a phone, take hands-free videos, and share photos and videos through the Google Plus social network. You'll be able to access public transit directions on the Glass if you're wearing it and paired with an Android device.

If you're interested in buying Glass, you can join the Explorer program at the Glass Explorer website. If you're chosen, you'll receive an email on Wednesday, April 17. You'll be able to write a short piece of code and send it to a friend to have the Glass shipped. You'll also be able to exchange your Glass for a newer model.

The Glass Explorer program is currently only available to those in the United States. That said, the company says it's planning to expand the program and will be launching an invite-a-friend system in the future. It's unclear how this system will work, but the company hopes it will bring more diversity to the Glass Explorer program.
